2002 Convention in
Houston
The annual convention of Personal Chefs Network was held on June 20 – 23, 2002 in Houston, TX during the
Southwest Food
Expo. The event was titled “Turing Passion into Profit” and was also the site of the inaugural *Golden Whisk Awards™* with voting in categories for Personal Chef of the Year, Best Marketing Idea, Best Chef Website, Best Marketing Materials, and Most Entertaining Forum Poster.
The event was kicked off on Thursday Evening in the Doubletree Hotel Allen Center at the Personal Chef Round-Up Rendezvous which was sponsored in part by the
Texas Beef Council. This informational session allowed us to meet and greet our fellow members of Personal Chefs Network and our new cheffing
friends.
The next two days were spend classroom style with PowerPoint presentations, business planning, marketing speakers, culinary demonstrations, industry specialists, and thousands of dollars worth of prizes were given away to members with their names being drawn from a chef toque.
On Sunday the inaugural *Golden Whisk Awards™* brunch was held at the Sambuca Jazz Café in downtown Houston where we celebrated the success of the convention with a fabulous meal. Award plaques were given to each winner after being voted on by their peers in the industry. The plaques were originals by Personal Chefs Network complete with golden whisks, miniature iron skillets, and engraved award names.
We would like to share our memories with you from the Houston convention where we met with fellows cooks to learn, share, and enjoy the enthusiasm of our cooking camaraderie. We hope you will join us next year in
Boston!
