Is Certification Necessary?
No! Personal Chef Certification is not a requirement in our industry!
Your clients want DINNER! Most certifications are only valid as long
as you stay a member of some organizations so be wary. Save your money
for marketing your business that will generate income and put money in YOUR pocket!
Do only wealthy people employ Personal Chefs?
No! Traditionally people that hire Personal Chefs are hungry and time
starved. They are looking to gather their families around the dinner table
again and their disposable income allows
them to "buy time!"
Is a Personal Chef a Private Chef?
No! A Personal Chef goes into their client's home to prepare several entrees
at a time for heating at a later time. It is all done in one day. Up to 20 meals
are prepared and packaged for later.
Do you have to be culinary trained to start a Personal Chef service?
No! The beauty of this business relies only on a LOVE to cook! Your clients are
looking for dinner and comfort food is usually the most requested item on the
menu. While culinary training could give you a unique advantage, most Personal
Chefs have no formal culinary training.
How will I know what foods will freeze?

Can I cook at my house and deliver the food?
Currently health department regulations restrict you from cooking in your own
home. It is necessary to cook the food in your client's home. If you have access
to a commercial kitchen and have the proper delivery equipment, your local
health department can help you with the details.
How much money can I make cooking for others?
Depending on the amount you charge, most Personal Chefs make between $200.00
to $400.00 per day. Your pricing decision and cost factors will swing this
amount in either direction. Your market will also help you decide how much to
charge.
