Leslee's interest in food began at a very early age. It wasn't uncommon to see her standing on a chair next to her mother in the kitchen. Leslee's mother was and still is an amazing cook; she attributes her mother's encouragement in the kitchen to her love of cooking. During her childhood she was very fortunate to travel extensively with her family, giving her the chance to sample all types of cultures and their cuisines. It’s because of these early travels that she is willing to try new and unusual foods. As a teen, Leslee would try to duplicate meals she sampled. It was obvious that food was going to be a big part of her life.
Leslee went on to college where she studied English Literature and Law and Justice. After graduation she went directly into the business world. Working as Business Manager for start-up companies. She would come home at night and begin cooking to release the stress of her working life. In 2001 she saw a program about Personal Chefs and thought that would be a great job but continued in the business world. Then in August of 2004, Leslee was laid off from her job. She knew she wanted to leave the corporate world and work with food. She began taking cooking classes at local schools and just a couple months later she saw that same program about Personal Chefs. Leslee immediately began researching the industry. "Imagine getting paid for something you truly enjoy doing," she would say to her family and friends. During her research she found The Personal Chefs Network and knew this was the organization for her. Leslee joined PCN in January 2005 and registered her business, The Daily Gourmet in February. After studying and passing the Food Safety exam Leslee was open for business.
Leslee's first job as a personal chef was with another member of PCN, Michele McKay, together they cooked for a family of 12 for nine days during Passover. It was this experience that solidified her decision to become a Personal Chef. "I never cooked kosher vegetarian food before but found it to be very challenging and rewarding."
Then just a few days after her amazing experience with Passover Leslee learned that her only sibling died tragically. This had a profound affect on her. Her ability to concentrate on her new business was completely gone. Leslee spent her time helping her parents get through the tragedy of losing their only son. During this time she would linger in the PCN forums, reading and getting to know other members. Finally after a few weeks Leslee posted about the loss of her brother. "This was very difficult for me to do because I didn't really know any members except for what I had read. I was amazed at the support and kindness that I received from so many of the members. I felt as though they were now dear friends." Because of the support Leslee received from her wonderful husband, parents, family and PCN friends she was able to get back on track with her new business. She knew her brother would want her to pursue her dream.
Leslee became very active in the PCN forums and the Massachusetts chapter meetings. Soon Leslee was completely booked with clients and dinner parties. Working to help clients with obesity issues, diabetes and healthier lifestyles. She also began teaching both children and adults to cook, again focusing on good nutrition.
Today Leslee is the Head Chef for the Massachusetts Chapter of The Personal Chefs Network, cooks for families and a busy daycare, teaches cooking classes to children and adults and fits in occasional dinner parties.
"I am so happy to be doing what I love to do and I owe a lot of my success to The Personal Chefs Network, without them I may be sitting in an office somewhere. I can't wait to see what's next for me!"
